Welcome to Mackay Christian College!

Research has shown that what parents look for first, when choosing a school for their children, is that their children will be safe and feel loved and cared for.  Of course, as parents, we also want to know that our children will have the very best possible opportunities to reach their full potential academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Choosing the right school for yourself or your family is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.

As a parent of three children, I am driven to ensure that our school meets the needs of our children. This world is a hot mess of narcissism, political and social drama and feelings of isolation. Students in this generation face the uncertainty of a rapidly changing world where 50% of what is learned in a university degree is obsolete less than five years after that degree is finished. With this reality, it can be hard for students to engage in education.

From my experience in education across several different nations, the most enduring commonality I have seen is a need for students to feel a connection to their teachers and their peers in order for learning to succeed. To learn, students must feel ‘at home’ when they are at school.

In a practical sense, this means that students must feel valued for who they are now, as well as being inspired to be the person they want to be in the future.

The students and staff here at Mackay Christian College will tell you that our vision is “becoming all God wants us to be”. Whether your child wants to be an accountant, airline pilot, architect, artist, author, … all the way to zoologist and zumba instructor, they are unique and valued at our school. We focus on meeting your child where they are, and working in partnership with you, the parent, to assist and guide them in the development of their own particular combinations of gifts and talents. Above all, students should feel cared for, safe, valued, and loved. It is these certainties that will allow them to face an uncertain world.

As a Christian school, we do all of these things within a Christian values perspective. The College values are CLEAR – Christlikeness, Learning, Excellence, Attitude and Respect. Unlike the example of the university degree above, these values will endure for a lifetime. We hope that our students will learn the value of a personal relationship with Christ as they follow the pathway we create together.

Mackay Christian College is a place where students truly belong.

Our Mission

The Mackay Christian College community consists of students, parents and staff working together to develop each child’s potential in a wide range of learning situations.

Emphasis is placed on positive, critical thinking skills and caring, respectful attitudes. We believe that the education process is a continuous one from Pre-Prep to Year 12 and beyond. We are committed to the education of the whole person – personally, socially, cognitively, and spiritually.

We believe that each member of the College community is entitled to a safe, secure, welcoming and loving environment to allow for the development of individual potential.

At Mackay Christian College we aim to provide a quality learning environment within which students will be encouraged to develop an ongoing personal revelation of Christ in their lives.

We recognise the significance of the example and witness of staff, of a curriculum framework based on Biblical Christian thinking, and of the standing of our College within our community.

High academic standards, good professional relationship, discipline and high levels of home-school communication with families are all part of the College’s mission.

CLEAR VALUES

Our CLEAR values provide cohesiveness in our planning, and an easy to understand reference for staff and students in the development of College culture. Even our youngest students are able to talk about College values.

These values describe both how we conduct ourselves while members of the College, and the qualities of character that will be needed by students when they leave our College to participate in complex life roles.

Christlikeness

To be a College where students and staff freely express their spirituality and where the policies and procedures reflect the heart and mind of Christ. (Matt 5:15, Matt 22:37, Duet 5:7-10)

Learning

To develop and implement quality curriculum and quality curriculum delivery within a culture of professionalism, which effectively imparts a Biblical World View, promotes a culture of excellence by providing challenging and stimulating learning experiences that enables students to explore their gifts and talents, improves learning outcomes and provides the opportunity for every students to experience success, and appropriately recognises National and State directions. (Ps 119:105, Eph 6:7&8, Heb 5:11-13)

Excellence

To be a College that reflects standards of excellence in character and behaviour, staff and student performance, activities, educational resources, facilities, grounds, and presentation. (Jn 3:20&21, Col 3:23, 2Tim 2:15)

Attitude

Develop a College culture that breeds confidence and reflects Christlike attitudes and actions. (Ja 4:10, Matt 5:3, Job 22:29, Lk 15:8-10)

Respect

Create and maintain a safe, productive, supportive and caring work environment within which self, others, property, authority, and God are treated with respect. (Duet 5:16, Rom 13:7, Eph 5:8-11, 1Pet 2:9, 2Pet 1:5-9, 1Jn 2:9&10)

This is our Future

While we can certainly learn from the lessons of our past, at MCC we are firmly focussed on the present and the future. Specifically, we are focussed on the futures of our students.

Students have great opportunities to explore and develop academically, physically and culturally through the excellent Academic, Trade Based, Sporting, and Creative Arts curricular and cocurricular programs offered.

The College’s Christian ethos, which undergirds everything we do at MCC, deliberately and strategically provides opportunities for students to grow emotionally and spiritually as well.

Mackay Christian College enrolled the first students in 1984. In May of each year the College community takes time to reflect on our past during the annual Founders’ Day Celebration.

The College was established to provide an independent, coeducational Christian education to families in the Mackay District. Our motto, Thy Will be Done, and our vision statement – Becoming All God Wants us to be, provide a strong foundation and guide the College’s planning processes.

The College has developed a comprehensive master plan for both campuses and future plans include further development of sporting facilities (courts etc), and a multi-function building (Junior Campus).

Over the last few years we have been very busy with some extensive new developments including:

  • an award winning Trade Training Centre
  • a second campus which accommodates our Junior School
  • a beautiful Pre-Prep (Kindergarten) facility
  • a state of the art second multi-purpose auditorium
  • a purpose built Tuckshop facility
  • 2 large Flying Start classrooms
  • Outside School Hours Care Activity Centre
  • a fantastic Uniform Shop

The MCC team members are committed to a process of continuous improvement in order to ensure that decisions are data driven and focussed on the current and future needs of our students.

We remain guided by our vision, values and purpose which lead us to be completely committed to helping every student become ‘all God wants them to be.
