Camping Program

The Mackay Christian College school camping program has been developed over a number of years. These are an integral part of college life. Camps are therefore compulsory and are an important part of the college’s curriculum. Variations may occur due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time of each camp.

Camps and excursions are educational and also serve to help in the bonding of the student year groups. The aim is to provide students with personal and social development opportunities, individual challenges, group challenges and environmental awareness, build resilience, foster leadership, decision-making and fun. The camping program has set goals and objects that aim to develop all aspects of every child: body, mind and spirit. The program fits in with each year level’s curriculum and provides an opportunity for the teacher to develop aspects of the class program in an alternative environment to the classroom.

Each camp has a purpose aimed at the development of the child and their year level cohort at that age. We are well aware of the cost associated with these camps and the impact this has on families’ budgets. Our aim is to provide you with as much detail as possible so you can plan for these events. We have included all camps so you will have an idea of what to expect this year and in years to come.

The only reason a student may not be able to attend camp from the college’s perspective is because of consistent poor behaviour. If a child is on a behaviour card, their opportunity will be reviewed and the invitation to attend will be at the discretion of the Head of School. (Year 9 camp is an exception – students with an injury or disability may also be unable to participate in this adventure style camp).

Planning ahead with the best information available, hopefully will help avoid disappointment. Please note that the cost of camps are top end estimates only. Costs may vary a little and will be added to your child’s school fees invoice so payments may be spread across the year.

Each camp is directed by the Teachers for that year and will usually be held at similar times of year each year. The Sports and Camp Administrator will coordinate the necessary documentation for camps and will be the first point of contact for any queries.

There are additional opportunities for students to attend extra-curricular excursions at various times throughout the year that are optional.
