Camping Program

The Mackay Christian College camping program is an important part of the college’s curriculum and is therefore compulsory.

Camps and excursions are educational and also help bond the student year groups. The aim is to provide students with opportunities for personal and social development, individual and group challenges, and environmental awareness, to build resilience, foster leadership, decision-making, and fun. The camping program has set goals and objectives to develop all aspects of every child: body, mind, and spirit. The program aligns with each year level’s curriculum and provides the teacher with an opportunity to develop aspects of the class program in an alternative environment outside the classroom. Each camp has a purpose aimed at the development of the child and their year level cohort at that age.

The only reason a student may not be able to attend camp, from the college’s perspective, is consistent poor behaviour. If a child is on a behaviour card, their opportunity will be reviewed, and the invitation to attend will be at the Head of School's discretion. (Year 9 camp is an exception – students with an injury or disability may also be unable to participate in this adventure-style camp).

Each camp is directed by the Teachers for that year level and is usually held at the same time of year and at the same location each year.

The cost of camps is included in the relevant year-level student fees and levies.
